Pregnancy & Chiropractic Care

From the time you start thinking about having a baby to the moment you hold your precious little one in your arms, pregnancy is an exciting time! As you prepare for baby, there are many reasons Chiropractic should be part of your “birth plan.” Since chiropractors are commonly thought to be back doctors, many women seek chiropractic care toward the end of their pregnancy to alleviate back discomfort often associated with the third trimester.

While this is not a bad time to get adjusted, Chiropractic can offer you so much more!

Before Pregnancy

Before you decide to have a baby, it is important to consider your own health. Healthy moms and dads make healthy babies! Since the goal of chiropractic is to help your body function at 100%, regular chiropractic should be part of your healthy “pre-conception” lifestyle. Along with eating a healthy diet, exercising, and minimizing stress, chiropractic is  important for those planning to experience the miracle of birth. Additionally, chiropractic care has proven effective in many cases of infertility.

During Pregnancy

In addition to addressing the undesired symptoms of pregnancy, chiropractic care throughout pregnancy is beneficial for other, more important reasons. When the spine and pelvis are not in proper alignment, associated intrauterine constraint can lead to baby staying in breech positions. By getting adjusted, intrauterine constraint is reduced and baby can get into a position that is more comfortable for everyone! Anecdotally, many of my previous prenatal patients have found their labor and delivery times reduced due to regular chiropractic care throughout pregnancy.

After Pregnancy

Chiropractic care is just as important after giving birth! As your body goes through many changes during this time, chiropractic care works to ensure that you heal and return to your new “normal” as quickly as possible.

What about Baby?

Chiropractic care is not just for mom. In fact, it is almost more important for your baby! Research has found that a normal, uncomplicated birth can lead to injury of the spine and nerve system 80% of the time. This can lead to issues such as colic and difficulty breastfeeding. Gentle chiropractic adjustments realign baby’s spine, restore nerve system function, and help baby be healthy and happy! What can be better than that?
