Routine=Mindless?

We are all creatures of Habit!  In some ways, having a consistent routine is a good thing.  It reduces chaos in our life and helps us to achieve goals.  Having a morning routine is a great way to start your day off on the right foot.  On the other hand, doing the same thing day in and day out ensures that we are literally going mindlessly through life!

Have you ever driven home at the end of the day without being consciously aware of it?  You pull in the driveway and into the garage and then think to yourself, “How did I get home so fast?”  I know I have done this before!  When routinely do the same thing, conscious part of our brain essentially goes to sleep (or shuts off).

Wake up your Brain: Do something different!

Wake up your brain by doing something different today!  Here are a few ideas:  First, you could take a new route home from work. Drive through neighborhoods you have not been in before.  Another idea is to sleep on the other side of the bed.  If you are married or have a partner, make them switch sides with you!  Eat something new.  Try some crazy veggie that you would never have eaten as a child.

When I was growing up, we consistently ate canned peas and green beans and my grandpa’s sweet corn (that we had frozen).  I don’t think I had ever even heard of Okra.  Fast forward to 2015 when I moved to Florida.  Y’all.  Okra is a pretty big deal in the south.  Once I learned that Okra has amazing health benefits, I tried it.  And I loved it!  Now I need to try something new 😉
